Peter,

Man I really don't know how someone could say something so immature and insulting about your drumming but I applaud you for taking it with a grain of salt and I really had to take the time to comment on your playing. I wish I could touch your latin feel, so precise yet so authentic sounding...it's sure got the "move your hips" quality which is really the soul of that style of music. I also am totally into how use are utilizing the double stroke foot stuff with as well...so unique and creative. Thank you for sharing your your skills on this board. We all appreciate the things you have to say and show us with your drumming and I hope whatever artistic attacks come in the future you can handle them with the same amount of professionalism.

Wow!
Nice feel Peter.

I truly love this type of playing style.
However, I recently do not find myself in the that type of playing situations.

I do a lot of recording for singer/songwriters.
It doesn't leave much room for this type of playing.

I miss it.
Keep up the great work.

I know that most players
don't get a chance at working
tunes like this but you can
find these out there, with
lower drum mixes (like this
one, with Steve Smith on rods)
and play-over them.

I told Blake about the Salsa
recordings and how most of
them do NOT have drums in
the mix, leaving the door
wide open for us.

I don't gig anymore so I try
and keep my life interesting
by seeing as many great players
as I can, while keeping up with
younger ones like Tom Hipskind
and finally playing to what
could be new challenges for
us. You don't want to fall
into a rut and the new music
always helps.

I'm sure you can work it in.
It's especially easy when you
have a digital kit that can
go direct into the computer.

Tom Hipskind?

Vinnie used Tom's drums
to record Kimo's "Tracking".

Vinnie's hot on that one,
for sure but you should hear
this guy play those same
arrangements!

I was at Martyr's to see
Kimo for the second time
in as many years and Tom
was billed as the drummer.

I knew Vinnie wasn't going
to be there but Kimo talked
him up the year before. I
wanted to go see this guy.
I had no idea!

The show got off to great
start. The guys were trem-
endous. The horns sounded
better than they had for
Vinnie, actually.

We'll the first of two sets
was over and the guys took
a break and when Tom came
over by the bar (near my
spot), I went over to him
to congratulate him on a
wonderful performance. He
has the charts, DOWN IN THE
GROUND, I tell you.

Well, I introduced myself
and he replied that he'd
met me years and years ago
in at a small dive called
"Avalons", in Chicago and
that I had said real pos-
itive things about the way
he played that night, as
well as talking about Gadd,
Billy and Tony etc. He act-
ually said to me that what
I said to him really meant
a lot, at the time.

Well, I was touched.

Boy! Was I right about this
guy?! Try and see him, if
you can, when you can. I
will try and get a disco-
graphy from him soon.

The 2nd set smoked! It was
one of the best shows I'd
ever seen and I've seen
hundreds of shows. The
energy was so high. It was
a wall of sound. Never miss
Kimo, if you can help it!
